- Vast traveler
- Odysseus is the son of Laertes, who was the king of Ithaca. This proves that he had a noble birth, because Odysseus was born into wealth and high social status in his culture, and the culture of the place the story is set. (Homer 1112)
- Unmatched warrior
- Odysseus was cunning, and had a good survival instinct, which is shown when he faces the cyclops, Polyphemus, and when he tells the cyclops that his name is nohbdy, Odysseus's intelligence is also shown when he escapes the cave of Polyphemus. (Homer 1118)
- Battles supernatural forces
- Odysseus travels a lot throughout his lifetime, in book nine he has his Journey from troy, to the lotus islands, to the cyclops island, then back to the sea which shows that he is a vast traveler. (homer 1112)
- Odysseus claims to have been tested by the gods and he is favored by the goddess Athena, and the god Hermes. He was the king of Ithaca and the conqueror of troy, or at least he was victorious in the Trojan war, his accomplishments prove that he is an unmatched warrior. (Homer 1112)
- At the ending section of book nine Odysseus recalls how he fought the cyclops by outsmarting him then blinding him by stabbing Polyphemus in the eye, which gives him and his crew an escape opportunity. (Homer 1118)
