- Spanish conquest was the beginning of the revolt against Spain, Spanish administration founded Santa Fe which is one of the United States oldest cities founded in 1610.
- Period 4 (1910-1939)
- Mexico
- In this time period the Mexican-American war has ended with the Treaty of Guadalupe where the US promised to protect rights of Mexicans in these new territories. US did not honor their promises and stole land along with violence, and a great deal of economic exploitation.
- Period 5 (1940-Now)
- Long Beach California.
- The Mexican Americans of the Southwest were gradually overwhelmed by the mass migration of Anglo-Americans into the Southwest.
- During this time period the US fell into an economic depression which caused many Mexicans to return to Mexico or were sent back by the government.
- Californias Long Beach area has more Mexican American population than any other metropolitan city in the US. Still suffering from lack of jobs and affordable housing. Population shifted from mostly rural to urban.
