- In 1803, Thomas Jefferson wanted to expand the US, so he bought some of the french lands for $15 million. The French were desperate for money.
- Stephen H. Long
- Wow, the Great American Desert!
- In 1804, Lewis and Clark went on their journey to Kansas and described it as "a great beauty". Lewis and Clark loved Kansas and they were the first ones there.
- Jackson's Speech
- I want the Indians out.
- In 1806, Zebulon Pike went to Kansas and described it as a desert. He also said that the land was worthless.
- Indian Removal Act
- You people have to go to Kansas.
- In 1819, Stephen Long traveled to Kansas by steamboat. He called it a desert too but labeled it "the Great American Desert".
- In 1829, Andrew Jackson wrote a speech that says he wants the Indians out of their land. He wanted to build cities and towns on the land instead.
- America didn't want the Indians in their land snd they decided that Kansas was too hard to live in. So as a solution they forced the Indians to move to Kansas.
