- Hey there! I'm Sprout, And today i will be telling you all about how i am alive and how i function.
- First off, There is a reason i stand so tall. Turgor Pressure from water! This process allows the vacuoles in my cells to expand making me strong and proud. When it rains i absorb the water and such process occurs. Water pushes the cell wall. if not, i proceed to wilt.My xylem assists in this process as it allows water to travel.
- Sometimes, I use other ways to adapt to whats around me. These adaptations are called Tropisms. These allow me to do a number of things. It is my response to certain stimuli. Sometimes i can lean toward the sun (phototropism, Protrude upward or downward (gravitropism), or even towards water , or away fro it with my stem (hydro tropism).Furthermore, i can even respond to touch , wrapping around vines and opening and closing my leaves(thigmotropism).
- Secondly, I obviously don't have a mouth (don't ask how i'm talking) so i tend to make my own food! I use CO2 and the sun to supply nutrients (also water) and i can make my own glucose. all of this gives me my beautiful colour and it takes place here! This change comes from Radiant to Chemical energy.
- My sprouting is also an interesting process. My sprouting keeps going upward and my roots grow deeper. The forces from all things allow me upward and i start relying on turgor pressure for my expansion upward. When i am just a seed, i reside in the ground , to grow upward i use stored chemical energy , kept in my casing. Furthermore this allows my casing to fall off from pressure and protrude me upward.
