Once upon a time there was a monster that went by the name Grendel. He terrorized the danes and people of Herot for many hard years. No one stayed in the mead hall for almost 12 long winters
Beowulf hears of Grendel’s terror in Herot and travel by ship to Herot. At the shore he is met by one of Hrothgar guards who bring him to Hrothgar which is where Beowulf pleads his case to fight Grendel.
Hrothgar understands that he is too old to fight. Knowing this and seeing a man like Beowulf who is an experienced warrior, Hrothgar makes the decision to allow Beowulf to fight Grendel.
Beowulf has an extreme history of being a warrior. There are tons of stories about Beowulf and the evil monsters he has killed. Beowulf is a strong warrior who is well versed in the art of fighting.
Beowulf decides to fight Grendel with no weapons as it is the most honorable and fair fight. Grendel doesn’t have any weapons so neither will Beowulf.
During the fight with Grendel Beowulf manages to pull off Grendel’s arm. Grendel manages to escape wounded to his deathbed while Beowulf hangs Grendel's severed arm in the rafters.
