Here we have Anastasia and Hua. Both are waiting for their turns to take their road test. Although they are both here for the same thing, they had different experiences that led to them feeling certain emotions and they have their own expectations on how it'll go for them.
Scene 4: Predictions Becoming True
Anastasia has been taking driving lessons with Simon. Simon is a supportive instructor. He is resourceful, positive and believes that Anastasia will pass her road test with flying colours. Anastasia's driving lessons with Simon has given her confidence. She believes she will pass the road test.
Scene 5: Anastasia and Her Prophecy
On the other side, Hua has been taking driving lessons with Chelsea. Chelsea is ill-tempered, condescending and unhelpful. Chelsea also believes in the stereotype that those of asian descent are bad drivers. Consequently, Hua is now nervous and doubts her driving abilities. She believes she will fail the road test.
Scene 6: Hua and Her Prophecy
Anastasia's and Hua's predictions became reality. Anastasia was positive and felt secure with her driving abilities. She passed her road test. Hua was very anxious and failed the road test after her insecurities got the best of her. Both their lessons and time spent with their respective instructors resulted in their expectations becoming true, this is what's known as the self-fulfilling prophecy.
The self-fulfilling prophecy was evident in Anastasia's case. She predicted that she would pass, and in the end her prediction came true. Simon, played a role in this happening. Teachers are able to impact their students' outcomes. If they have high expectations for their students, their performance improves. Simon had high expectations for her. He was positive and helpful and believed she'll pass her road test. Anastasia had molded his expectations and attitude into her own.
The self-fulfilling prophecy can also be seen with Hua. She predicted that she would fail, and her prediction became reality. Hua had unpleasant driving lessons. Chelsea had low expectations for Hua. And when teachers have low expectations for students, they underperform. Hua, being a minority was at a disadvantage because of the stereotypes that surround her race. With Chelsea's negativity and the stereotype, Hua unfortunately succumbed to failure.
