In 2053 Mr. Leonard Mead walks through a neighborhood for hours. He goes to a corner and looks in all 4 directions. As he walks down the street he looks in all of the houses that he sees and he sees that all of the houses have their windows covered and dark. He compares the street to a graveyard and the houses as being tombs.. He walks until midnight.
As he looks through the houses, he hears murmurs and whispers. He would pause for a brief minute and then keep walking. A while ago, He had the change his shoes because dogs in the neighborhood would hear his loud shoes and start barking, thus waking everyone up.
He came to a cloverleaf intersection that crossed between two highways. During the day, you will see and hear the hustle and bustle of cars. When he was there he compared the highways to a stream in the dry season. When he turned around, a car suddenly turned the corner and flashed a big white light on him.
Mead meets a robotic police car—the only one left in the city since crime is virtually nonexistent. The car interrogates Mead, trying to discover why he is out by himself. This questioning reveals that Mead is nonconformist in many ways.
After mead tells the care about himself and what he was doing, the back door of the car opens and it tells him to get in. Mead did not want to and he described it as a little black jail.
When Mead finally got in the car he asked where he was being taken The car drove off passing all of the houses including his own. Mead tries to tell the car that it passed his house but there was no answer.
