  • In the 1820s the Ottomans ruled Greece. During that time before the war of independence the Ottomans forced slavery. Greece was wanting freedom.

  • It is time for a change, I, Alexander Ypsilanti, will lead us to victory vs. the Ottoman Empire!

  • In the 1820´s Greece was going through religious oppression because the Ottoman Empire was forcing the Islamic religion onto Greece.
  • Yes we, Russia, Britain, and France, will help you.
  • Greece needs help, please helps us get our independence from the Ottoman empire.
  • The Greek longed for a different life. They didn´t like the Ottoman empire. They heard about the Western Ideas, the idea of being free.

  • One of the first uprising was lead by Alexander Ypsilanti in 1821. He was a Greek officer in the Russian army. By the end of 1821, the Greeks controlled enough territory to be able to convene a meeting of representatives that proclaimed Greece's independence.
  • The Treaty of London was signed on the 6 July 1827 by Great Britain, France and Russia. The three main European powers had called upon Greece and the Ottoman Empire to cease hostilities that had been going on since the Greeks revolted against the Ottoman rule on 17 March 1821.
