  • The third estate, (led by Count Mirabeau), has risen, and is taking the tennis court oath, refusing to leave until France has a new government.
  • The King did eventually agree, and the national assembly was formed, this was a major victory, but not enough.
  • The people then decided to raid the Bastille, a prison, soldiers were sent in to fight the people, but ended up joining them, the 7 people inside were set free, and the governors head was chopped off and paraded around, this entire event scared Louis. The national guard was also formed by the people to keep order in Paris, commanded by Marquis de Lafayette.
  • People were beginning to think that the assembly was out of touch, as the cities were still not liveable places, So many women marched from Paris to Versailles, to demand that the government be moved back to Paris, after they attacked the palace and assembly, the King agreed to move go back to Paris
  • Declaration of the rights of man.
  • The declaration of the rights of man was created by the national assembly, and was meant to set out the basic human rights for the citizens of France, it was similar to the American declaration of independance, in that it was meant to help the people.
  • The King (who was now only a citizen), was put on trial for his crimes against the country, and on January 21st, 1793 was executed, with his wife being executed later, in October.
  • The Reign of terror was when Robepierre went insane and essentially became the modern equivalent to a fascist dictator, similar to Stalin and Hitler he killed anyone who opposed him, he starved the people, and had total military control.
