- American colonists moved away from England to work in America. They convinced the king og England to let them set up as a colony in America. Times got so hard those first settlers had to eat rats and even each other to keep from starving to death. Pretty soon more people arrived and times get better. The English stayed
- People seasick sailing across the ocean to settle a not yet discovered land white the king of England sat in his palaces ruling England. He had absolute power! But this was the 1600s and now the English people had representatives in Parliament who madev flaws and defended peoples'rights. They even gave advice to the King.
- WHY CAN'T I VOTE?!!
- In Plymouth, the colonists signed a compact agreeing to " form a o=government where all the men would vote on whatever(Women didn't get to vote in 1620.) Even so, the king still controlled the colonies, and the colonists had to follow England's laws.
- BECAUSE YOU'RE A WOMAN!
- We are in debt from the war. What should we do King?
- In 1765, after a very expensive war Britain passed the Stamp Act, which forced colonists to put expensive tax stamps on all legal documents, as well as newspapers, calendars, and books
- We should tax the American colonists for everything!!
- IT IS MY RIGHT TO BE IN YOUR HOUSE!!
- The British passed many laws after the Stamp Act. One being the Quartering Act which forced certain colonists to let British troops live in their houses
- GET OUT OF MY HOUSE!!
- On July 4, 1776, leaders of the colonies signed the Declaration of Independence. Ending problems with Britain. There was the small matter of fighting a war against Britain to make that Freedom real. When the Americans won the Revolutionary War. Britain lost all control of the colonies. The United Stats of America was born.
