  • No its fine, we have one of his good friends Marc Antony!
  • Here lies Julius Caesar
  • WHY WOULD YOU KILL JULIUS CAESAR?!?!
  • who...
  • Hey I am here too!
  • I am Antony and I have Greece, Asia Minor, and Egypt!
  • I am Octavian and I have Western land including Spain and Gaul!
  • I am Lepidus and I have North Africa, except for Egypt!
  • After the death of Julius Caesar people were furious. Senators claimed it wasn't them and to show their love for him they placed one of Caesars generals, Marc Antony, in charge of Rome.
  • We love you Octavian!!!
  • Antony was quickly faced with the problem of Octavian Caesar, the grandnephew of Julius. He became an issue because Caesar named Octavian his sole heir, making him one of the wealthiest citizens in the Roman Republic. Oh, and Lepidus, one of Caesar’s top lieutenants, had power too. To ensure Antony's rise to power, the Second Triumvirate was formed with the three men.
  • Each took a few provinces...
  • I, Marc Antony, declare that after I die all my eastern provinces shall be left to my beautiful wife, Cleopatra. This will is 100% real!
  • I Antony
  • This alliance to rejuvenate Rome’s power between the three men obviously did not work out, just like the First Triumvirate, and only resulted in distrust between Antony and Octavian. Antony saw Octavian as a threat to himself because he used his family name to gain trust with Roman citizens. Since Caesar had no sons himself, Octavian was viewed as the natural successor of Rome.
  • Octavian became a threat to Antony’s desire for power, so as a result Antony decided to end the alliance, divorce his wife, and join Cleopatra in marriage. In theory, people believed that Antony was attempting to use Egypt as his center for his kingdom.
  • As a few years go by, Octavian decides to activate his influential power to Rome. He created propaganda in order to ensure his win as emperor. It is believed that Octavian produced a letter containing Antony’s will that says he left all of Rome’s eastern provinces to Cleopatra after his death.
