  • I was never really a curious kid riddled with questions. However I found myself asking a lot of questions about Jewish traditions. I learned that, a stone will not die, and can symbolize the permanence of memory and legacy.

  • The End
  • SInce I started wearing the necklace, my friends and other Jewish kids in my grade began asking me about my necklace. They were shocked to find out i was jewish since my last name was Italian. I felt as though I was being accepted by Jewish kids at school even if I wasn't practicing.
  • When I got to High School I started picking up on the racist comments towards Jews. I would hear kids get described as "a Jew" in a derogatory manner. I started to get upset by these comments as I had a new grown pride for being Jewish..

  • In Middle School we read Anne Frank's diaries where I got to read about the Holocaust through the lens of a girl my age. I gained more interest in reading more personal survival stories from the Holocaust.
  • Sophomore year of highschool, we read Night by Elie Wiesel. However, this point of view was from a survivor. I started to compare their different experiences. Anne Frank was hiding most of the time before getting killed, while Elie was being tortured in Auschwitz. I thought to myself, what would I rather do? Would I be strong enough to survive a deadly concentration camp?
  • My Sophomore Year of High School we had to do a research project on someone who we thought was influential. With further investigation, I decided to do mine on Oskar Schindler.
  • My sister and I submitted our DNA to Ancestory.com where we could discover more about our family history and origins. Although we had many different ethnicities, the main percentage was Eastern European Jew. It was shocking to the both of us.
  • My father and I watched the award winning movie Schindler's List, to do more research on Oskar Schindler. This truly opened my eyes to the horrors of what was happening to Jews during World War II. The movie was scaring and graphic but helped me understand more of what happened.
  • At the end of the movie, it fast forwards to present day and the remaining survivors visit him and put stones Schindler's grave. This was a full circle moment for me as it brought me back to my Great Grandmother's burial. I was reminded of my journey of learn about my origins.
