Nine months ago, I was in Bogotá, Colombia. It is my home country.
.
There we usually walk into the houses wearing shoes, sleep with the noise from the street, cook meals mainly by the stove, and kissed and hugged our friends and relatives.
When we visit family or friends, they usually welcome us with food and beverages. We usually dance during family celebrations and share food and drinks.
. I used towake up between 7:30 and 8:00 am every weekday for my job. Our main meal duringthe day is the lunch. All those facts took more relevance when I went to a newcountry in North America: The United States of America.
I decided to come to the USA to live and work with an American host family, and study English. When I first got to their house on a Wednesday afternoon, they said: “Please leave your shoes at the front door”. I thought to myself: “Mysocks are going to get dirty!”.
Beaverton, OR, USA.
Well, this was just the beginning. That first night I went to bed and I heard no noise in the house. It was so silent than when I walked into my bedroom the ground creaked loudly. The next morning, I woke up at 4:30 am and I was not sleepy!I couldn’t believe it.
