  • Militarism
  • Alliances
  • On this storyboard, I will be talking about the causes of WWI.
  • Imperialism
  • Kingdom Of Serbia
  • Militarism is when a country expands its military, usually with the idea to prepare for an upcoming battle. Militarism caused a lot of tensions in WWI. Countries (such as Germany, France, and Russia) would expand their military by large amounts. This caused tension, because military isn't expanded without intent of battle.
  • Nationalism
  • An alliance is when two groups swear to protect each other. Alliances were a big deal in WWI. Many countries had allied with each other, a major alliance being between Serbia and Russia. After a war broke out with Serbia and Austria-Hungary, Russia was forced to get involved in the war, forcing other alliances to get involved, causing a domino effect.
  • The assassination of Archduke Ferdinand
  • WWI
  • Imperialism is when a country expands its land to acquire wealth and power. Imperialism was big in WWI. Many European countries had large amounts of land, which lead to them having large amounts of wealth and power. Other European countries saw that their land lead to more wealth and power, leading to them wanting land of their own. This lead to conflict and competition between many countries.
  • Nationalism is mainly a way of thinking, believing in a freedom for your people. Nationalism was a big political force in WWI. Serbia would fight for their freedom from Austria-Hungary. Serbian nationalism would continue to rise, being in part with the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand.
  • The assassination of Archduke Ferdinand is what many call "the spark that started WWI". The Archduke was assassinated by Gavrilo Princip, a Bosnian Serb, who sought to end the Austro-Hungarian rule over Bosnia. There was two attempts on the assassination, one of which was successful. The first assassination, was attempted via grenade, which didn't work out too well, as the grenade bounced off the car, leaving the Archduke unharmed. The second attempt, however, was a success, leaving both Ferdinand and his wife dead. This ultimately lead to the start of WWI.
