This Civil War was a war fought between The Union and The Confederacy. This war started on April 12, 1861, and it ended on April 9, 1965. The Union fought The Confederacy because of the moral issue of slavery and states rights.

Cassietta Chestnut was trying to order a local diner but gets kicked out for her skin color. This is how it was in southern states, even though the South lost the Civil War they would make state laws to prevent African Americans to associate with White people. They would make "Whites Only" places and they would make literacy tests to prevent African Americans from voting.
The Great Migration was a time period for African Americans to relocate and find new cultures. The northeast was were they mostly migrated to, in big cities like New York. Their culture consisted of music and art, which is highly presented today. Here we have Cassietta Chestnut and her son Raymond Chestnut enjoying the day, listening to music.
Plessy v. Ferguson was a landmark decision of the U.S. Supreme Court that upheld the constitutionality of racial segregation laws for public facilities as long as the segregated facilities were equal in quality. This is were he presented "separate but equal".
