  • A War Between Two Colonial Powers, 1757
  • The British and French were two European powers who both wanted the land of the Ohio River Valley. This conflict was the start of the French and Indian War.
  • Fall of Quebec, 1759
  • The French had many Native American allies. The British, in attempt to gain allies sent representatives to meet with the Iroquois, the enemy of the Frenches allies, the Algonquin. The Iroquois refused the alliance but remand neutral.

  • The French were successful in the beginning of the war, but once William Pitt became the Prime Minster the British made a turn in the war.

  • The capital of New France was captured by England, previously being thought impossible to attack,. This marked the defeat of France in North America.

  • The Treaty of Paris officially ended the war, and it forced Canada to be given up by the French and much of their other land east of the Mississippi River.

  • After the war the British raised taxes to gain the money they lost. They also created a proclamation, which helped end conflict with the Native Americans. The proclamation also kept colonists on the coast. This made many colonists angry, and eventually lead to the Revolutionary War.
