  • The Cold War
  • Ryan Morrell
  • One of the major reasons for the cold war was a difference in ideologies in the Soviet Union And USA. The Soviet Union wanted a communist government, but the US disagreed because they had a democratic government.
  • With the creation of the atomic bomb, an arms race started between the USA and the Soviet Union. Anything USA created, the Soviet Union tried to copy because they felt threatened.
  • The Soviet Union wanted to continue to expand and spread communism worldwide, but America did not agree with that. USA supported surrounding countries, but would not provide support to the Soviet Union in an effort to stop their expansion.
  • A big part of why the Cold War started was because Truman and Stalin were constantly going after each other. The two simply did not like each other, and it caused tensions to constantly rise.
  • One thing that caused tensions to grow immensely was the abrupt stop in financial aid from America to the Soviet Union for post-war reconstruction. It angered Stalin that they were excluded all of a sudden, while everyone else was still receiving the support.
