Storyboard Text

  • Hello class! Get out your textbooks and turn to page 45 because today we're going to be learning about blood vessels. Can anyone tell me the difference between each blood vessel?
  • I also heard that they each play a specific role in the blood circulation process. Is that right?
  • Um aren't blood vessels located all throughout the body?
  • Yeah and aren't the three main types arteries, veins, and capillaries?
  • Wow! You are all correct! I see that you all have a basic understanding of blood vessels. I want you all to read page 45 in the textbook and then we can further discuss what we have learned. I want each of you to pick one of the three main blood vessels and explain it to me.
  • Veins support circulation by conveying blood to the heart. Blood flowing through the circulatory system transports nutrients, oxygen, and water to cells throughout the body.
  • The arteries deliver oxygen-rich blood from the heart to the tissues of the body. Each artery is a muscular tube lined by smooth tissue and has three layers: The intima, the inner layer lined by a smooth tissue called endothelium.
  • Capillaries are so small that a single red blood cell can barely fit through them. They help to connect your arteries and veins in addition to facilitating the exchange of certain elements between your blood and tissues.
  • You are all correct! A common misconception I wanted to clear up is that blood is blue. Blood circulates the body and oxygen is removed by tissue so the blood grows darker. For that reason, blood returning to the heart and lungs often has a dark red appearance. But it's never blue.
  • Thank you for informing me I was so sure that blood was blue.
  • Wow! I learned so much today. Thank you Mrs. Johnson!
  • I cant wait for next class this is so interesting!
