- The Great Depression's effects were widespread, like mass unemployment, but especially in Eastern European states, authoritarianism and totalitarianism took place. In Germany, who took all of the burdens from WWI, there were fascist movements under Hitler, and there were also fascist movements in Italy under Mussolini
- Adolf Hitler's National Socialism was a movement and political party driven by extreme nationalism and racism that lasted in Germany from 1933 to 1945 and was what pushed Europe into WWII
- Stalin launched the first "five-year plan" to turn Russia into a Communist state through constant propaganda and repression on the people. Lenin established the New Economic Plan to allow farmers to sell their crops in markets rather than Bolsheviks seizing grain without payment.
- Stalin also called for the seizure of the property of kulaks, the well-off class that benefitted the most from the NEP, many were starved and deported to labor camps for "re-education"

- Mussolini recognized that his assaults on Socialists won him support, so he collected a private militia called the Black Shirts to destroy Socialist newspapers, union halls, and Socialist headquarters to push Socialism out of Italy
- The British attempted appeasement towards Germany, which would grant Hitler's territorial demands, such as Czechoslovakia and Austria, to avoid war - this also dictated French policy and pacifism
- Hitler's armies used planes, tanks, and trucks in a blitzkrieg ("lightning war") and bombed Warsaw, Poland on September 1939. Hitler's New Order was a program based on racial imperialism, which preferred Nordic people, considered the French as inferior, and considered Jews and Slavs as sub-human.
- In the Holocaust, Nazis condemned and attempted to exterminate all European Jews and other sub-human groups of people and exploiting their labor before euthanizing them
