- I have no idea how Vincent and Winston can get bored playing this. Well I don't care I will learn anyways, its not like they want to play with it now.

- This is getting kind of boring maybe we can go roam the streets in cowboy hats.
- These are American rules!
- A couple days before
- Well we each have 16 pieces. There 64 squares. Each piece has a certain amount of steps they can take.
- Vincent can you teach me about chess.
- Ya I agree Winston lets go!

- I have won chess games now and have had my picture in the magazine, but my mom keeps bragging to everyone that I am her daughter and I want it to stop and she keeps putting pressure on me. She even makes me wear this itchy pink dress!

- Characterization
- Winston- was fun and was in his own world and exasperated about Waverly.
- Waverly- was very passionate and skilled at chess.
- Lindo Jong- was strict controlling loved to brag
- Vincent- was in his own world, taught Waverly basic things about chess.
- Theme
- Rules of the Game= PowerWhy?Waverly wanted control and power of her own life and choices, she loved chess, but the pressure that was put on her made her wish for more freedom away from her mother. I suppose that is why she took off running at the market.
- Imagery
- She had no words for me just sharp silence.
- My mother's eyes turned into dangerous black slits.
- The hot wind rushed through Waverly's ears.
