Is that smoke coming from Cam's house coming from down the street?
Wow what happened?!
Someone left our stove on and our kitchen is on fire! I think I hear the fire trucks coming!

I learned about that in physics! Thats the doppler effect! As it approaches, the sound waves compress and it makes the frequency seem higher in your ear then it actually is which is why its so loud!
Wow thats so loud! Why does it always seem to be louder just when its passing us, and then it gets so quiet after it passes?

But why does it get quieter as it moves away?
Once the truck is passed you, its sound waves expand, and are longer which makes the pitch seem lower then the real value. Lets go to the park!
Is there a way to calculate the frequency that i heard in my ear so we can compare it to the frequency of the horn?
Actually yes! All we need is the speed of sound in air, the speed of the truck, and the frequency of the horn on the truck and we can calculate it!
