Macbeth and his friend Banquo, both soldiers in war, are visited by three withes who tell them three prophecies.The first prophecy is that Macbeth will become the new Thane of Cawdor.The second is that Macbeth will become king of Scotland.The third is that Banqo’s sons will be on the throne after all.Macbeth and Banquo are confused if this can be real and din’t believe in the prophecies.
The deed/downfall
The current king of Scotland, king Duncan, proclaims Macbeth that he is now the new Thane of Cawdor.Mabeth starts to believe that the witches’ prophecies may be true and can’t wait to become king.Banquo is still incredulous.
Falling action
Macbeth tells his wife about the prophecies and that he’s now the Thane of Cawdor.She begins to forge plans how he can become king as quickly as possible. Lady Macbeth insists that her husband must kill the king in order to become king himself.Macbeth is worried about her plan and does not want to carry out the regicide.
Resolution
Macbeth carries out the murder because his wife has manipulated him emotionally and tells him that if he backs down, he will lose his manhood.Meanwhile, his wife has poisoned the king's guards so that Macbeth can carry out the murder without danger.Macbeth fells instant regret.
Lady Macbeth's plan worked. Her husband is crowned King of Scotland. She achieved what she wanted to achieve, while Macbeth can hardly live with the consequences of the murder. He wished that he could have defended himself against his wife's blackmailing words and could now go on with his normal life as a hero in the war.
Macbeth falls into a vicious circle full of brutality and unscrupulousness. He is about to kill more people and ends up getting killed by Malcolm, the elder son of king Duncan.
