- In 509 BCE us Romans overthrew the Etruscan king. We created a form of government called a Republic. That meant that leaders were elected to represent his people. This new system was not so equal though. Power in our early republic was in hands of rich men. Unfortunately I was born plebeian,that meant that me and my family had no say in government.

- In 494 BCE we decided we had enough of the patricians ways, they wouldn't let us participate in government and we had no say in anything. Me and other plebeians decided to march out of the city onto a nearby hill. We refused to com back to the city until the Patricians met our demands. Us leaving put Rome in a crisis. Without us the Patricians were hopeless. We did everything for them. We worked on farms, produced clothing, and food for them. They were nothing without us so they had no choice but to compromise.

- In around 451 BCE we were finally acknowledged. The patricians allowed us to elect officials. We could now elect lawmaking body, the Council of Plebs. This council was only created for us, not the patricians. That patricians also agreed to write down laws. They were published on tablets called the Twelve Tables. In 367 BCE a new was published that one of the two consuls must be plebeian.
- In 287 BCE, we earned the right to pass laws for every Roman citizen. Now all assemblies of Roman citizens could approve or reject laws. The plebeian assemblies also nominated the councils. They also nominated tribunes and members of the Senate. The number of plebeians that served alongside patricians in the Senate continued to increase.
- Now after 200 years we won. We won equality. We created a republic that is used in many places. In Europe and America. They were inspired by the spirit of republicanism. Government should rule for the good of the people.
