On the board, I listed the different types of patterns
Loop patterns have ridges thatenter from either theright or the left andexit from the sameside they enter!
Whorl patterns have at least oneridge that makes acomplete circuit. Looklike a bull’s-eye, withtwo deltas
When considering different minutiae for fingerprint identification, experts use a 12 match guideline. The 12 match guideline means that if two fingerprints don't have at least 12 of the same minutiae, they are not a match. Fingerprints need to share at least 12 or more minutiae to be matched.
Fingerprint Minutiae- Minutiae are points where print ridges come together or end; they are considered to be the “uniqueness” of an individual
With these different characteristics in fingerprints, someone can possibly identify who was at a crime scene. However, fingerprints can be altered due to scars or disease. If this occurs, minutiae and ridge patterns may change as well.
In conclusion, fingerprint evidence can be very helpful in identifying suspects of a crime, however, it has some flaws that make it unreliable. DNA evidence is usually more efficient when convicting someone of a crime.
