- "Mom, just go. You're the lasts person I have to say goodbye to, and I just want this part to be over" (Benjamin 268).
- "'Hello?' Franny's mom. I took a deep breathe. She couldn't have known that I'd spent the last few months not-talking, that I'd not spoken on the phone since before Franny died. She couldn't have known how hard it was to say anything at all" (Benjamin 274).

I took a deep breathe and spoke with as much dignity as I could muster. 'They are unable to make this trip'" (Benjamin 292).
