Storyboard Text

  • Hello, let me tell you about the Boxing Day Tsunami.
  • It happened on the 26th December 2004 and it hit the west coast of Sumatra.
  • The tsunami was caused by a magnitude 9.3 earthquake that occurred on the sea floor off the western coast.
  • A 120km section of the sea floor was where it ruptured! This caused a massive area of the sea floor to raise.
  • This effected lots of things to happen, for example people were being swept away in the water and the other things that'd already been taken up - because of this and homes being destroyed nearly a quarter of a million people died from it.
  • What do you think about this? Do you think it could happen again? Could it possibly effect you this time?
  • I hope you have enjoyed hearing about this hazard. Bye!!
