- Stop the play.
- Are you alright, my lord?
- Give me some light. Stop the play.
- What? Frightened by a play?
- The King rises.
- I like Hamlet not. Nor stands it safe with us to let his madness rage. Therefore, I ask you to return to England and take him with you.
- O my offense is rank! It smells to heaven. To kill my own brother! And now, guilt and fear hound me every minute.
- Now I might do it, now he is praying. And now I’ll do it. And so he goes to heaven and so am I revenged. What kind of revenge is that? No. I must wait until I can catch him in a sin. Or am I just putting things off? Perhaps I am. I don’t want to become a killer.
- I want to pray, but what words can I use? How can I ask for, or be granted, forgiveness when I continue to wear this ill-gotten crown? How can I ask for forgiveness when I continue to be married to the queen? I am trapped in a pit of corruption and sin, and I can’t get out of it.
- My words fly up, my thoughts remain below. Words without thoughts never to heaven go.
