- David is smiling at Melinda reasuring her that it's ok and then, "Mr. Neck nods at me. I pick up my report as if I'm going to read it out loud. I stand there, papers trembling as if a breeze is blowing through the closed door. I turn around and rip my poster off the blackboard" (Anderson 156).

- No, i haven't decided on colors yet. And i won't help you.
- Melinda was drawing by herself when,"Someone flick the light off. My head snaps up. IT is there. Andy Beast. Little rabit heart leaps out of my chest and scampers across the paper, leaving bloody footprints on my roots. He turns the lights back on" (anderson 160).

- Melinda mind was racing so she decided to imagen her own show when she realized," Sally Jessy: ' I want this boy help responsible. he is to blame for this attack. You do know it was an attack, don't you? It was not your fault. I want you to listen to me, listento me, listen to me. It was not your fault. This boy was an animal" (anderson 164).

- Melinda is annoyed that Heather back so she thinks, "I bite my lip, Does she want to know the truth, that shes self centered and cold? That I hope all the seniors yell at her? That I hate sea-foam green, and besides it's none of her business if my windows are dirty? I feel a tiny button noses against my back. Bunnies say to be kind. Lie" (Anderson 179).
- Melinda wants Rachel to know she misses her so she writes, "It's nice to talk to you agian. I'm sorry we couldn't be friends this year. I pass the notebook to her. She melts a bit around the edges and writes back. 'Yah i know' " (Anderson 182).
- Melinda wanted to make her mom proud so she, "The front lawn is raked, edged, mowed, and the bushes are mulched, I'm not even breathing hard" (Anderson 189).
