- Odd Thomas was born with a gift that allows him to see the dead and communicate with them. He uses this gift to solve murders and crimes around his town by using his instinct and communicating with the dead. Odd Thomas calls the dead shadowy figures he sees 'bodachs'. Bodachs are attracted to death and will follow wherever it goes, revealing potential murderers and serial killers.
- A strange man with yellow hair shows up to Thomas workplace and multiple bodachs follow him, giving Thomas a strange feeling about him and Thomas decides to follow him.
- Thomas breaks into the mans home then finds a wall in his basement that is an entrance which tons of bodachs pour out of, revealing to Thomas that the man is evil, and conspiring to kill lots of people.
- Thomas comes home one night to find the strange man dead with a gun wound in his chest that shows there is another murderer that was partnered with the man but didn't want to be caught, so he shot his partner. Thomas takes his body to be dumped out in the desert.
