- "I believe you. "However, you must understand something. You will never know the love with which Gatsby adored Daisy. Anything, including dying, would have been done for her. In a sense, he actually did die for her. So you must respect it if you really want to make things right."
- Gatsby's father, Henry C. Gatz, I had read about my son's death in the newspaper. I am writing to Nick, thanking you for his friendship with Gatsby, and I feel really sorry and bad that things had to end in this way in your friendship
- "Something that I should have told you a long time ago. You see, Nick, I knew Daisy before she met Tom. We were friends, and I knew about her relationship with Gatsby. I even knew that she was driving the car that night."
