  • I wonder how Newton's 3 laws can be seen in basketball
  • Law one states that an object will keep moving unless something acts upon it. Take this ball I am bouncing both my hand and the ground are causing the ball to change its movement.
  • Same thing happens when I shoot the basketball, The gravity stops the ball from moving forward and pull it down towards the basket.
  • When I shoot the ball it accelerates and the ball has mass. If you multiply mass and acceleration, you get the force I applied to the ball. That is Newton's second law: Force = mass x acceleration.
  • According to Newton's third law, when I applied force to the ball, the ball also exerted an equal but opposite force back at me.
  • Who knew that playing basketball could teach you so much about science!
