Storyboard Text

  • In 1949 the Arms race between the US and the Soviet Union begins. The rapid surrender of Japan with the use of atomic and nuclear devices used on Nagasaki and Hiroshima caused major political unrest. In addition NATO would not recognize the Soviet Union politically. With conflict rising between the nations, they would enter a time period in which the superpowers would attempt to out best each other's technology and weaponry.
  • In 1955 the US and Soviets expand the Arms race into the Space race. The petty nature of the Cold war led to the innovation of interstellar technology. This would prove as yet another dramatic arena for the superpowers which defined space technology on both sides. The original intent for the Space race was for one superpower to make it out of orbit before the other. This event would lead to the creation of the United State's space program- NASA.
  • On November 1, 1955, the US was fully involved in the Vietnam war. The Vietnam war was one of the many Proxy Wars to arise from the cold war. Vietnam was a communist country, and during the red scare, there was a fear of communism spreading to the Americas. As a result the US, along side the SOUTH Vietnamese fought the Vietcong guerrillas.
  • On October 4, 1957, Sputnik was launched by the Russians into space. Westerners feared this satellite because the United States was far behind in technological advancements. The united states was far behind in the space race and feared that the Russians would use this to their advantage and try to attack the US.
  • On July 20, 1969 Americans landed on the moon, also known as Apollo 11, this mission was a great success and brought hope to the American people. In their eyes, this had proven to the Russians that they too could conquer the frontier of space. The soviets no longer had some they could hold over the U.S's head. Technology was booming and the people were certain that they would win this everlasting war.
  • The fall of the Berlin wall dates back to November 9, 1989. This was an extremely pivotal moment for the cold war. It showed the inner weakness that the soviets had. This started the great fall of communism, no longer were people of Germany separated by a large blockade, they were able to live free without restrictions from a brooding government and America watched as the Cold War started to come to a close.
