- Im replacing you with Winfield Scott!
- Taylor won multiple battles during the war. This made Taylor become national Hero. However Polk didn't like this so he replaced him with Winfield Scott.
- The newly appointed general would defeat multiple Mexican troops, and eventually coming near Mexico city. Santa Anna tried to defend the city from an attack, but he wasn't able to.
- ATTACK!
- We must defend Mexico City!
- However Santa Anna's efforts wouldn't work as Winfield had reached Mexico City. Fighting was taking place everywhere in the city, but on September 14, 1847 the U.S. had won the war.
- Nicholas Trist, and Mexican officials agreed that Mexico would give the U.S. 529,000 square miles of territory. The U.S. would pay for the claims that the U.S. citizens had against Mexico.
- Ok if we pay for debt you owe to the California settlers then you will you give us some territory.
- Ok it's a deal then. We shall call this the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo.
- Old issues of slavery would soon come up as Texans that half of New Mexico because they said that the border was east of the Rio Grande. However Santa Fe a city in this area didn't want to be a part of slave state. Kentucky Senator Henry Clay would create the compromise of 1850 which would pay the Texas government to give up its claim.
- We have no interest in becoming a slave state!
- Many Tejanos during the Mexican American War were discriminated due to the fact that many U.S. citizens saw them as the enemy, and not to be trusted due to their Mexican heritage. Many in result were threatened, and forced to leave. Many Tejanos stayed however, and formed most of south Texas population.
- Hey! It's our fault we didn't cause this to happen!
- You people are the reason we're at war! we should be fighting you too!
