- The Battle of Antietam was the first major battle fought on northern soil. It also ended up being the bloodiest one-day battle in all of history.
- The siege of Vicksburg ended in Union victory and cut off Confederates ability to transport cotton causing severe economic consequences.
- The Battle of Gettysburg ended in Union victory after 3 days of bloody fighting. This battle is considered to be the turning point in the civil war because it was the last time the south was able to invade the north.
