So, without the teachers' permission nor supervision they started the project. When Charlotte tried measuring the correct amount of acid the graduated cylinder was not on a flat surface so she measured completely wrong.
She got a large amount magnesium thinking it would be more effective and before she could put on her glasses she saw the teacher coming their way. She started to panic and rushed to put the magnesium in the Erlenmeyer flask and the biggest mistake she could have possibly done was covering the top with her hand creating pressure.

Moral of the story- Always pay attention and never do an experiment without being supervised by your instructor. It could get you or other hurt.
Moments later the flask exploded in her face and hands resulting in severe skin burns and damage in her eyes. This also ended up in damages to the chemistry room.
After this day everyone stopped talking to Charlotte and lost all the respect they had for her for being so careless and selfish. Charlotte learned her lesson of not paying attention in class and working without the teachers supervision.
