Let's limit the blacks rights, give power to Southerners, and get the Union back together!
Yes, I want to get the Union together again; but everything else you said is stupid.
Black CodeALL BLACKS MUST WORK ON ORIGINAL PLANTATION
Black CodeBLACKS CANNOT OWN PROPERTY
Black CodeBLACKS CANNOT PREACH
If you're gonna say it, say it out loud, coward.
As a Radical Republican, I believe freedman should have the same rights as white men, ex-Confederates should be punished, and we should get the Union back together.
That is the most IDIOTIC thing I've ever heard.
In Presidential Reconstruction, a summary of it all is that President Johnson, now pres. after Lincoln's assassination, wants the Southerners to come back into the Union scot-free if they passed the 13th Amendment and he also let them pass Black Codes.
White League and KKK
LET"S MAKE THEM WISH THEY NEVER HAD RIGHTS!!!
During Presidential Reconstruction, Black Codes spread throughout the South because he encouraged Southerners to restrict the rights of freedman, as shown above. They could not preach, they couldn't have meetings or arrangements after noon, and they were restricted to work on their old plantations because whites knew they didn't have anywhere else to go. The freeman felt caged and hopeless.
Thank you so much!
In Radical Reconstruction, a summary of it all is that the Radical Republicans, or the North believed that everyone should have the same rights and opportunities. They passed the Civil Rights bill which gave African Americans the same rights as white men and they sent Union troops to the South to make sure all was well between the two opposing sides/races.
Compromise of 1877
The White League and the KKK were organizations that oppressed freedman. They struck fear into freedman and Congress by starting riots and spreading panic, havoc and violence throughout the South, hoping to scare blacks enough so they would think twice about using their new rights to their advantage.
Freedman bureau helped freedman daily with their struggles; whether it be stopping potential violence between them and whites in the South, or giving out free rations like food and clothing to them. Former slaves felt a sense of hospitality and safety because of this.
