  • We won at a high cost, but you are still entitled to giving us something...

  • Great Britain won the war. In the Treaty pf Paris 1763, France was forced to give up all of its North American colonies, including Canada and all the land between the Appalachian Mountains and the Mississippi River. Even though the British won the war, the economic cost of the war was incredibly high, and left them virtually bankrupt.
  • Stamp Act
  • In 1763, King George issued a statement prohibiting all colonists from moving West of the Appalachian Mountains. Colonists lived there had to pack up and move back East. They weren't too happy about that!
  • Boston Massacre
  • To help make up for the debt of the war, the British Parliament came up with the idea of taxing the colonists. Many colonists got angry at this, particularly because there was no colonial representation in the British Parliament.

  • Yea, but only because we have no choice!

  • Britain's debt had almost doubled from 80 million pounds to 130 million pounds. They had to figure out a way to get all that money so they started to tax everyone on paper. Everything that is printed or used on paper you would have to pay tax this was for everything such as ships papers, documents and newspapers, but books was one thing that was not being taxed. The people who were most affected by the Stamp Act were lawyers, ministers, printers, and merchants.

  • The Boston Massacre occurred in 1770 when British soldiers fired into an angry mob of protestors. killing 5 colonists.
  • The Quartering Act - required colonists to provide housing for British soldiers without compensation
