1577-1600's: Many slaves are shipped to Haiti per Spain's request. They were set to farm the luxurious plant of sugarcane. Sugarcane would be very profitable towards this land.

1697: Treaty of Ryswick was established which gave France control of 1/3 of Hispaniola. France named it Saint Domingue and would introduce more trading.

May-Sept. 1791: After the French Revolution, the French Assembly traveled to Saint Domingue and granted political rights and freedom to the slaves. White planters objected this which made violence occur.

1801-1804: Toussaint L’ouverture , a former slave, is the leader of the Haitian Revolution. He battles with Spain, France and the U.S. and signs the Haitian Constitution of July 8th of 1801. L’ouverture fights with Victor Leclerc of France. He then makes a truce but is killed. Later, the Saint Domingiue became independent and would then be called the Republic of Haiti.

Aug 1791: The Boukman Rebellion in which Boukan and Cecile led a voodoo ceremony. This sparks the beginning of the Haitian Revolution as it signified a revolt of the slaves
1805-Today: Haiti had to pay Spain millions for freeing the slaves at no cost which still affects their economy today.
