- At the beginning of the story, Montresor is a bitter man who wants revenge against an friend of his named Fortunato.
- Climax
- Montresor makes his plan to lure Fortunato into a under grounf passage way (Catacombs) to eventually murder him.
- Falling Action
- While traveling down the passage way , Montresor began to repeatedly talk about the niter. He then uses reverse psychology on Fortunato and says he will get someone else to help him but Fortunato refuses. As they continue to walk, Montresor lures him into drinking more wine.
- Resolution
- Finally, Montresor chains Fortunato to the wall and began to build a wall with brick to seal him in.
- Brick by brick he covers his body as Fotunato crys and weeps as to why Montresor is doing this. When Montresor gets to his last brick, he stops to put a torch through the hole to find that only jingling appeared from the bells and no response was made.
- The story ends when the body of Fortunato was now found 50 years later.
