  • Hello! It´s good to see you again! In this time, we are going to talk you about the gerund.
  • This doves are eating.
  • Examples
  • Gerunds are words that are formed with verbs but act as nouns. They’re very easy to spot, since every gerund is a verb with ing tacked to its tail.
  • Mikaela and Francis are leaving China.
  • Are you cutting all my hair?
  • As with present participles, sometimes we double a final consonant when making a gerund.
  • Some examples are: cooking, meditating, being, having, dancing, philosophizing, etc.
  • You can turn any verb you want (except a modal verb) into a gerund.
  • The movie star has a very strenuous fitness routine that involves dieting, jogging, sprinting,running, and lifting weights.
  • I do not want to be a movie star anymore.

  • Just like nouns and noun phrases, gerunds and gerund phrases can be used in several different ways in sentences. In general, there are four different ways that we use gerunds: as subjects, subject complements, direct objects, and objects of prepositions.
