Before deforestation the forest looked a lot like ths:, green, lush and untouched by everyone except the native amazonians like me. We all enjoyed living this and cherish the forest deeply
It drew in many environmentalists, like me. We wanted to study the plants and animals in the Amazon and protect it
Wow! We learned about native amazonians in school! They came around 12,000 years ago and have learned how to farm with the thin soil by farming one patch for a few years, leaving to let it regain nutrients for a few years then coming back! They also hunt and fish! And they somehow manage to do it all sustainably!
Environmentalists came in the 1970s after they heard about what was happening and started a worldwide movement with rubber tappers and native Amazonians to protect the rainforest actually istend!
That's right but now...
Oh My God! This is horrible the rainforest is such an important place to not only plants and animals but people everywhere. The amazon produces 1/4 of the worlds oxygen what happens when that 1/4 is gone?!
But now Loggers, settlers and cattle ranchers are burning the rainforest to clear the way for development. It's killing all the plants and animals that are unique to the rainforest.
It is horrible and environmentalists like me are trying to bring more attention to the rainforest and fight the Brazilian government who are letting this happen
So are native amazonians! We are trying to keep the land that has been ours for 12,000 years!
Well what can I do it seems like all hope is lost.
Thank you!
There are many things people are doing, like fighting the Brazilian government, encouraging tourism and buying products that protect the rainforest! As for you individually you can donate to causes that protect the rainforest, buy products that benefit the native amazonians and many many other things.
