- I hear the slaves are planning a revolt
- The enslaved revolted and rebelled, they burnt everything the whites owned to the ground. If they couldn't get freedom the whites would not profit from them in any way.
- The free coloureds, did not want the slaves to be freed. They argued that there would be no one to do the hard labours. Having been born inot freedom, the free coloureds regarded themselves as better than the enslaved.
- The whites heard whisperings of the revolution plans but chose to ignore them. They concluded that their informants were wrong as the slaves were too illiterate to do something on as large a scale as they had heard. This arrogant dismissal worked out beautifully in the slaves' favour.
