  • Hello American, you should live here and help us grow crops!!!
  • Why not!! Let's do it!!
  • Due to certain circumstances, we are requiring every one who lives in Mexico to convert to our religions and ways.
  • I am Santa Anna, I have come to reclaim political control!!!
  • Who does he think he is??
  • Mexico founded Texas in 1821. Texas was very under populated and needed to “recruit settlers from the United States to help grow the region's population”.
  • You have to stop and just let go of Texas!!!
  • Okay fine.
  • In 1830 over 7,000 settlers from the US were living in Texas, but the Mexican government had rules stating anyone who lives in Mexico needs to convert to a specific religion and essentially become Mexican.
  • All of my people think it would be best to join your country as a state.
  • We do have some good arguments, but we aren't sure yet.
  • By 1835 those American settlers formed their own temporary government and called for independence, which led to the Mexican government sending Santa Anna, the Mexican leader, to “regain political control.
  • Come on!!! We can bring good qualities to the US.
  • Fine Fine. We will take the risks to better our economy.
  • Santa Anna’s troops killed 187 American and Tejano defenders. But a man named Sam Houston took his men to battle and “forced Santa Anna to recognize Texan independence.”
  • The citizens of the newly independent Texas were overwhelmingly in favor of becoming a state in the US because they were afraid of Mexico trying to take control again. Others agreed because they thought making Texas a slave state would benefit the economy.
  • However, there were also people who thought making Texas a state was unnecessary and would only cause problems between the Us and Mexico; maybe even ending in a war. In the end, Texas became a state in the US.
