- This takes place in Tulsa Oklahoma, in the year 1960. Ponyboy has two brothers, Darry and Sodapop and is in a gang with other fellow greasers.
- Climax
- The greasers and the socs have a rivalry that causes them to argue and fight. Their social stature plays a part in their quarrels. The socs being rich and wealthy, while the greasers being poor and a low class.
- Falling Action
- After Darry yelled at Ponyboy, he and Johnny ran away to a lot with a water fountain. As the socs were approaching them, one soc named Bob was drowning Pony in the fountain. To save ponyboy, Johnny kills Bob.
- Resolution
- After Ponyboy and Johnny ran away after Johnny killed Bob the soc, they ran away to a old church. It caught on fire days later while they were out of it and came back. Johnny and Pony heard kids were in there so they went in and rescued them. Johnny went to the hospital and died a few days later.
- The socs and the greasers have a rumble. Once dally finds out Johnny dies he robs a a store and then gets shot. After a week once Pony gets over a hard time, he reads a letter from the late Johnny. After reading that Pony has a kind of peace that makes him feel better.
- In the end, the socs ran away, signifying that the greasers won the rumble which in the end stopped the fighting.
