Storyboard Text

  • Welcome to the Inverness King Duncan
  • Yes
  • Lady Macbeth, will you please meet with me outside?
  • I can not kill I'm, I am his kingsman and he is my king. Killing him would be a huge crime and I do not want to risk it.
  • Stop being a coward! If you do not do it you would not be considered a man.
  • Stop being a coward! If you do not do it you would not be considered a man.
  • In Act 1, Scene 6, Duncan visits Macbeth's castle to congratulate him on his battlefield success and to officially bestow upon him his new titles. Duncan comes in Inverness, the home of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth. Duncan is accompanied by Malcolm, Donalbain, Lennox, Macduff, Ross, Angus, and a few more companions. Lady Macbeth welcomes Duncan in the manner befitting a visiting dignitary. She treats the king with dignity and respect, going out of her way to make him feel at ease at the Macbeths' beautiful castle. This is all part of Lady Macbeth's cunning strategy to fool Duncan into thinking he is safe.
  • Fine, How do we plan to kill him.
  • We will get both of the King's servants so drunk they will not be able to remember anything, then you sneak past them and kill the King. Lastly, place the knife on the servants so it looks like they killed him.
  • Macbeth asks Lady Macbeth to meet outside.
  • Macbeth says that he will no longer kill Duncan. Outraged, Lady Macbeth labels him a coward and doubts his manhood: "When you durst do it," she adds, "then you were a man" (1.7. 49). He wonders what would happen if they fail, and she assures him that as long as they are brave, they will succeed.
  • Lady Macbeth's plot includes stabbing King Duncan to death with daggers and framing the guards in his room (who would be drunk and unable to respond to the crime) by smearing them with the king's blood. She will alert Macbeth when it is time for him to proceed to the King's apartments to carry out the deed.
  • Macbeth sneaks into Duncan's room, the servants were so drunk they did not even notice.
  • Macbeth murders Duncan, we do not see this because it happened off stage.
