Storyboard Description

The steps that led to the American Revolution.

Storyboard Text

  • Proclamation of 1763This act was passed in 1763. It was passed in order to stop hostility between the natives and the colonies. This made the colonists mad, however, because they had just fought a war for these lands. The colonies suffered a lot and they didn't even get the land they fought for. This is the first thing the British did that got the colonists mad which would lead to a revolution.
  • A have made a proclamation making it illegal to move past the Appalachians
  • Sugar ActThis act was passed in 1764. This act was passed mainly for the British to get more money. They put a tax on mainly sugar but other things, too. They also strengthened the enforcement of smuggling cases. They placed taxes on certain imports.
  • Why are being taxed like this?
  • Stamp ActThis is act was passed in 1765. This required colonists to purchased special stamped paper for every legal document, license, newspaper, pamphlet, etc. This is obviously was hated by the colonists because these items were used on a daily basis. It was met with heavy criticism and protest. It was eventually repealed in 1766.
  • We need lots of money. Lets tax the colonies some more!
  • Townshend ActsThis act was passed in 1767. It put taxes on imported materials such as glass, lead, paint, paper, and tea. The colonist protested this by boycotting these goods. They proclaimed "No taxation without representation." Eventually, most of the taxes from the Townshend Acts were repealed but not all.
  • The Brits have to stop the taxes on imports. This is hurting us badly.
  • Boston MassacreThis event occurred in 1770. There were colonists protesting a couple of soldiers. They started throwing snowballs and eventually rocks. The soldiers felt threatened so they shot into the crowd. This event was used by Samuel Adams and Paul Revere in order to enrage the colonists and get them to support independece.

  • Boston Tea PartyThis event occurred in 1773. This was a response to the Tea Act by the colonists. They dumped 18,000 pounds of tea into the water. The Sons of Liberty dressed as Native Americans when they did this. The British immediately retaliate with pretty much martial law.
