In this scene, Frederick was working in the field and suddenly felt sick and fell to the ground. He crawled out of the sun, away from the other workers to prevent making the heatstroke worse. Covey then noticed the work stopped, and stormed over. He was furious and started brutally yelling and beating Frederick, telling him to get up, even if he couldn't.
But..... I can't........
In this scene, Frederick had had enough of Covey. After running away and getting a magical root from a fellow slave, he believed he could not get whipped again. When Frederick first came back, Covey basically ignored him but one day when he was working in the stable, decided to attack. Covey came in and tried to tie up Frederick, but Frederick fought back. Long story short, they kept fighting for hours and this time, Covey was the one bleeding.
@!#$%
In this scene, Frederick is a couple years older. He is way past the fight, but now Covey is scared of him, which is very good for Frederick. All because of that fight--or maybe even the root-- Frederick was never to be whipped again and saw himself now as a man, and not a slave.
