- The Tough Questions: Is when Ponyboy and Johnny are in the burning building and have to save the kids. They are faced with the question to save the kids or leave to save theme self. chapter 6
- Again and again: Is when Ponyboy kept saying he's not dead, he's not dead throughout the story because he's trying to make his mind think that Johnny is not dead. Chapter 8
- Contrast and Contradiction -Is when Randy starts telling Ponyboy how he doesn't want to fight in the big Soc vs Greasers battle. Chapter 7
