- The main characters are the wise old woman and the farmer. The story takes place in a village in Japan.

- If you don't complete these tasks I will take over your village.
- The main conflict is that if you are over the age of 71 you go to the mountain to die because they are useless.
- Falling Action
- How are you smarter than all my wise men.
- I can not lie I have broke the rules and hid my mother under the floor of my kitchen.
- The farmer hid his mother under the floor in the kitchen because he did not want his mother to go to the mountains to die.
- Resolution
- I did not notice how much wisdom is in a small village.
- The turning point is when Lord Higa threatens to take over the village. Lord Higa also gave three impossible tasks.
- The wise old woman tells the farmer all of the answers. The lord is confused that he is so smart so the farmer tells the lord where his mother is.
- The story is resolved by the rules being changed. I know that because the lord said they are not so useless.
