  • They are Spaniard born in Spain residing in the New World, Spanish East Indies, or Spanish Guinea. They hold the most important and prestigious positions in the colonial administration. The peninsulares gather a lot of wealth and power.
  • Mulattoes
  • Creoles are spaniards born in Latin America, they were below the peninsulares in the social classes. Creoles was not able to hold an high-level political office position, but they were able to rise as officers in Spanish colonial armies. These two groups controlled land, wealth, and power in the Spanish colonies.
  • Slaves and Natives
  • Mestizos were know to describe people of mixed ancestry with a white European and an indigenous background. They were able to inherit encomiendas and property as any Spanish son would. Also, if there was not a legitimate Spanish heir, the father would often give his property to an illegitimate mestizo son. Although the son even though the son could not own the land legally he could unofficially control it.
  • They are the first general offspring of a black and white parent.
  • Natives had been use as slaves. Than when the Spanish brought over a disease from Spain, it had killed a lot of the natives. Then they had started to use Africans as slaves.
